Cuttlefish - Did You Know?

The Cuttlefish has one of the largest brain-to-body size ratio of all invertebrates!

  • Cuttle refers to their internal shell, or 'Cuttlebone'.
  • They are related to Octopi & Squid (Cephalopods).
  • Despite being colour blind, they can change the colour, pattern and texture of their skin to match their background, even complete darkness!
  • Reflecting plates on their skin reflect certain wavelengths of light, creating the 'shimmering' effect  across their body!

Sea Biscuit - 'Breed, Rescue, Protect'

Sea Biscuit - Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary

Sea Biscuit is a juvenile Green Turtle around 4 years old. Weighing just 80 grams, she washed ashore on a local beach following stormy weather in April 2009 with a severely injured left front flipper. She was brought into Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary where our professionals rehabilitated her, unfortunately she lost the flipper due to extensive damage. With the help of Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary, Sea Biscuit recovered and has learnt to swim and dive with only 3 flippers! Now she is contending for the cutest animal in the tank!
The staff here at Manly SEA Life Sanctuary have done an amazing job, not just with Sea Biscuit, but with all of the animals here under our 'Breed, Rescue, Protect' programme.

Pop on down today and say hello to Sea Biscuit and the rest of the gang!
